A Time to Heal and Move Forward
In February, Los Alamitos was in the national spotlight for an unfortunate incident where a racially
insensitive cartoon was e-mailed to members of our community by our (former) mayor Dean Grose. I
know I speak for the citizens of Los Alamitos when I say that the cartoon was of poor taste and is not
representative of the views of the City or its residents. Under the circumstances, Mr. Grose did the right
and honorable thing by accepting responsibility for his actions and resigning from the City Council, thus
allowing our City to begin the healing process and move ahead.
In March, I was sworn in as the new Mayor of Los Alamitos. To be candid, I had not expected to become
mayor under these circumstances, but nevertheless, I am up to task. As we all know, the State of
California and the nation at large face several challenges related to the recent downturn in the
economy. Unfortunately, our City is not immune to these problems, but I am optimistic that by working
together, we can overcome them.
I am very humbled and honored to have been appointed by the Council to take on the responsibility as
Mayor. I will work with the entire Council and our Community to do my very best job as your public
servant to lead us in healing process and stay focused on the City’s priorities during these challenging
times ahead.
